Holy LisCon!!! I mean, holy ATH baby Ethereum is finally going for it. What a weekend we have ahead and even more so how about the next 6 months ahead for us.

Ethereum is about to go to ‘zeeeee moooon’ as many of us know.

Lisbon was an absolute epic trip and I’ll never forget the mems we made there (hell, I wrote them all down so I would never forget!!).

That’s the goal of todays post, to bring you live into LisCon from my perspective as a young degen.

Imagine a room full of enthusiastic Ethereum builders while ETH is approaching ATHs. The smell of fresh pastries and not enough espresso shots mixed with the aura of excitement. Never in my life have I seen so much crypto merch in one place, oh and by the way if you wanted to have a t-shirt or a hat for yourself, it was yours.

Walking into the event with a bit of an aimless vibe to your strut, like, who to talk to and what to discuss…perhaps a bit of nerves across the board on day 1.

As soon as we walked in we found one of our OG frens and partners from DeGate, Agne. She was having a photoshoot in front of the main conference exhibition. Naturally we greeted each other with huge hugs and took a really nice looking pic.

Nerves pretty much erased as we soon realized that anyone we spoke to was building something that aimed to grow the broader Ethereum community and they wanted nothing more than to share it with you.

Especially when they were told that we were DeFi Slate.

Countless times we were conversing with fellow builders who simply knew who we were before we even began to explain DeFi Slate.

Even once at a bar outside of a crypto event, our buddy Deniz from MakerDAO seemed to know about us. We had to take a picture together.

This was all done on purpose. Our brand was never about the people who are behind it, it was always about the brand itself. You know, decentralized and what not.

Inside of the actual event we sat down for many talks on DAOs, DeFi, NFTs and all sorts of novel concepts. One of our favorites was details about the upcoming ETH 2.0 merge.

Hint: Its coming very soon.

The first day for us was filled with finally meeting people which we’d been on endless zoom calls and telegram chats with. It seemed as if we were celebrating something but really just happy to finally be in person as one big family.

After a few hours of meet and greets, we entered the Media Room for an hour of amazing interviews:

Super fun to talk to founders in 1-on-1 to get insights for the community on upcoming releases and see firsthand their intense enthusiasm for what they are building. Many of these founders are essentially putting their life’s work into Web3 and it shows in the passion they bring with their projects.

After a good session of interviews we grabbed some lunch and came right back to LisCon to chat further with more peeps, in the media lounge and outside. Huge shoutout to Mia, Lauren, Sam and the rest of the YAP Global team for endless introductions to “big” Ethereal community members like Kevin, founder of Gitcoin.

I remember looking at him in the eye and saying “thanks for the airdrop man!”, he then proceeded to airdrop two pairs of socks and a t-shirt irl to both myself and Robbie. Very generous. Also quoted “Quadratic funding is like a gift from the Ethereum gods”.

We also got super swagged up from the YAP team (best PR firm in crypto).

Day one was filled with energy and amazing vibes, but we were tired and so by 4-5pm it was time to go for a nap.

There were parties that night to attend and enjoy…which made day 2 a tad slower for everyone.

If day one was like Wolf Of Wall Street when he’s screaming in the office and everyone is going crazy, day two was like a calm walk in the woods. Fueled by coffee and some pastries, everyone pushed through to deliver some amazing panels, great alpha, and some amazing interviews.

Our best was with Jordi from PolygonHermez on the future of zkEVM and scaling Ethereum (video on YouTube soon)

We met with some really cool teams who were all very interested in doing content, filming podcasts, and even sponsoring our brand (look out for some new sponsors soon!!!)

The best panel of the day came towards the end where DeFi builders from Synthetix, The Graph & MakerDAO came together to discuss the DAOs which they currently operate and how they got to where they currently are.

Stani from Aave also gave quite a remarkable talk on the journey to building out web3 social media and what that looks like.

LisCon was a massive success and we will 100% be showing out to future conferences and putting in the work to make sure they are all a success. The biggest takeaways I had were:

It really is all about community.

Bitcoin is our gold. Ethereum is our silver/oil/money. Altcoins are our venture equity bets. DAOs are our new corporations. Community is the new CEO. And decentralization is breeding collaboration more than ever before.
